Under His Wings

Psalm 91:4a  “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust:”

Isn’t it funny when God gives you a word, and in the middle of sharing it with someone else, you realize it is really for you? I even started making a video for social media, with the plan to send it to someone that I *knew* this was for. That video got interrupted, as they tend to do, by an urgent need of a small human, and was never posted.

The next day, as I was praying over a situation, the Lord brought the lesson back to my mind. It was for me all along.

It sounds lovely to be hidden, like a baby bird, under God’s wings. Can you imagine being cozily snuggled up against His heartbeat? The whole world shut out—just you and the safe, comforting warmth of His presence.

Have you ever watched a baby bird hiding under its mother’s wings? Occasionally, you’ll see a little eye peeking out, but mostly, the babies are completely hidden away. Think about that—they trust completely, they rest at peace, and they can’t see what’s going on around them. They trust their mother to keep an eye out on their behalf! A baby bird feels no need to keep an eye out for trouble. A baby bird feels no need to control its circumstances. A baby bird feels no need to see what lies ahead. Why? A baby bird is completely comfortable under its mother’s wings because it trusts its mother completely.

It trusts its mother completely.

As I was praying, asking for direction, spiraling into my own thoughts, and trying to solve an unsolvable puzzle, God reminded me of this verse.

I don’t need the answer, because it’s not for today. I don’t have to make a decision about this thing for a couple of days yet. I don’t have to spend the next few days wrapped up in knots about it. I can just rest under His wings while He keeps an eye out. I can stop worrying so much about protecting myself. His careful eye and mighty strength are on duty. He never slumbers nor sleeps. (Psalm 121:3-4)

This devotional might not be for you, but it was for me--whether or not I recognized that at first.
